Rs.300 Protinex or Rs.3000 Whey Protein | Protinex vs. Whey Protein | Honest Review

Protein is one of the essential macronutrients for the proper functioning of the body.

A 60kg adult who does not work out has a sedentary lifestyle, still needs about 50-60 grams of protein on a daily basis.

Benefits of Protein –

  • Protein helps build Lean muscle
  • For daily repair of body
  • Stabilizes blood sugar
  • Fills up your tummy
  • Improves your mood.

However, if the goal is to build muscle, then the need for protein increases even more.

But if a person is a vegetarian or has a busy lifestyle, it gets quite challenging to fulfill the daily protein requirement.

Hence the need for a protein supplement arises.

Whey protein and Protinex are one of the most popular ones. Let us talk about both of them.

Let’s compare them based on their nutritional value, ingredients, price, and various other factors and determine which one is a better choice.

We will also discuss if these protein powders are safe? What actually are they made of? When how and how much should we consume them? And much more.

I would suggest you read this article till the end. So that you get complete information, which will help you make the right decision for yourself.

So without any further delay, let’s get started.

Nutritional Value

Whey Protein

Whey protein is a type of protein that is extracted from dairy milk.

When we separate Paneer from milk by adding lemon juice or vinegar, the yellow-greenish liquid left behind is nothing but whey protein.

It is this liquid that is processed to get the whey protein powder. So whey protein is derived from a vegetarian source, and both men and women can consume it.

One serving of this whey protein powder, 30gms will give you 120 calories, 1 gram of fat, 3gm of carbohydrates, 1 gram of sugar, and 24gms of high-quality protein.

Now because it has a negligible amount of fats and carbohydrates, it is a lean source of protein source.

The benefit of consuming the lean protein source is that it gets readily absorbed by the body, which is a very important post-workout meal as it helps to build muscle much faster.

Protinex

On the other hand, one serving of Protinex, which is also 30gms, will give 105 calories, 9.6gms of protein, 16.4 grams of carbohydrates, 9.3 gms of sugar, and a negligible amount of fat and a lot of vitamins and minerals.

Protinex, as we can see, is not a lean source of protein. Moreover, for every 9gms of protein that you are getting from per serving, you are also getting 9 grams of sugar.

So serving of whey protein would look like this, which nothing else but protein. Whereas the protein of Protinex would look like this, which has half protein and half sugar.

So which one would you like to choose? Obviously Whey protein.

Why People go for Protinex over Whey Protein?

Why is that some people choose Protinex over Whey protein? One reason could be a lack of awareness. However, the primary reason is the price of a whey protein.

Price

This 250gms of Protinex costs Rs.375 INR, whereas these 900gms of Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey protein as it is a US brand after custom duty will reach your doorstep at Rs. 3000 INR.

So we can say that this whey protein is more than 2X costlier than Protinex. Can’t we?

Real Difference between both the Price

Let us do a basic calculation;

For Whey Protein

We get 900gms of whey protein for Rs. 3000. That means 1 gram of whey protein is 3000/900=3.33 rupees. One serving of whey protein, which is 30gms, will come out to be 3.33*30, which is almost Rs.100.

So one serving of whey protein, which is costing you Rs.100 will give you 24gms of protein. That means the cost of 1 gms of whey protein is 100/24, which approximately comes up to be Rs, 4.1.

Whey Protein

  • 900 grams of whey Protein = 3000INR
  • 1 gm of Whey Protein = 3000/90 = 3.33 INR
  • Since, 1 serving of Whey Protein = 30gm
  • Cost of 1 serving of Whey Protein(30gm) = 3.33*30 = 99.99~100INR
  • From 100INR = 24gm of Protein
  • 1 gm of Protein = 100/24 = 4.1INR
  • COST OF 1 GM WHEY PROTEIN = Rs. 4.1 INR

For Protinex

Now let us see what Protinex has to offer,

250gms of Protinex costs us Rs. 375 rupees.1 gm of Protinex will cost us 370/250. One serving of Protinex, which is also 30gms, will cost us 375/250*30, which is Rs. 45. (which is clearly cheaper than that of whey protein).

This one serving of Protinex, which is costing us Rs.45, will give us 9.6gms of protein or let us say 10gms of protein, so that means you are getting 1gm of protein from Protinex at Rs.4.5.

Protinex

  • 250gm of Protinex = 375 INR
  • 1gm of Protinex = 375/250
  • Since, 1 serving of Protinex = 30gm
  • Cost of 1 serving of Protinex (30gm) = 375/250*30 = 45 INR
  • From 45 = 9.6 gm of Protein = 10gm (Approx)
  • 1 gm of Protein = 45/10 = Rs. 4.5
  • COST OF 1 GM OF PROTINEX = Rs. 4.5 INR

Surprised. Aren’t you?

So we have clearly proved that protein form Protinex is costlier than that from Whey Protein.

And you know what if you do the same calculation for a 5lb (2.27 kg) of whey protein jar, which cost about 5500 rupees, in that case, 1 gm of whey protein will cost you only Rs.3.

I do agree that in order to buy whey protein, you have to pull out more money in the beginning, but in the long term, it is much cheaper than Protinex.

And most importantly, you are getting high-quality protein, which will help you build muscle much faster.

So it is totally worth it.

Source of their Proteins, Ingredients present

Whey Protein Ingredients

I call whey protein to be high-quality protein because it is extracted from milk, which is a complete source of protein.

Even if you look at its ingredients, the first ingredients mentioned is whey protein isolate. However, the only ingredients in whey protein that I wish weren’t there is this artificial sweetener called Acesulfame Potassium.

The daily recommended take of this artificial sweetener is 15mg per kg of body weight. It is 200 times sweeter than the regular sugar we have to consume in large quantities to achieve that number.

So if you daily consume one of 2 scoops of whey protein, it should be fine.

However, if you want to completely stay away from this artificial sweetener and artificial flavors completely, you can buy a raw whey protein powder.

Protinex Ingredients

On the other hand, the protein source of Protinex is peanuts, which is not a complete source of protein, then the carbohydrates in Protinex are coming from sugar, malt extract, and maltodextrin, which are all simple sugars.

Even if you buy Protinex diabetes care and compare it with whey protein, it will fail in cost per gram of protein and the quality of protein.

Summary

Both these brands have their own merits, if you’re really serious about building muscle, then my advice is to go for Whey protein.

Whereas, the amount of vitamins and minerals in Protinex is definitely positive.

If you have already bought Protinex or if you still want to buy it, you can have one serving of Protinex post-workout with low-fat milk.

But when it comes to whey protein, if you want to get the maximum benefit out of it, always have it post-workout with water.

Anyway, Whey protein is much better than Protinex.

The bottom line is this, if you have serious muscle-building goals and you really feel that you are not getting proper protein on a daily basis, consider buying a whey protein.

And the most important thing that you should keep in mind is that by buying whey protein is that you buy from an authorized dealer like or bodybuildingindia.com or Nutrabay.com

Because when you buy from an authorized dealer, you need not worry about the products’ duplicity while purchasing from a certified website.

So, friends, this was my honest review of these two popular brands, which is an honest comparison between Protinex and Whey protein.
